Grizzly 399

On Tuesday evening, Grizzly 399, known as the Queen of the Tetons, was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene. Her yearling, Spirit, who was with her at the time but not injured, is still missing. Grizzly 399 was, at 28, the oldest recorded reproducing female grizzly in the Yellowstone area. She had a total of 18 cubs. Rest in peace, Grizzly 399. You taught us to love and respect the grizzly bear. You will be missed. We pray that Spirit is found safe and sound and carries on your legacy.
