It's National Teddy Bear Day! In 1902, President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt, while hunting in Mississippi, refused to shoot a bear cub. The incident made the national news and Clifford Berryman subsequently published a cartoon of the event in the Washington Post. In turn, a New York store created a new toy based on the bear cub in Berryman's cartoon and the store owner wrote to President Roosevelt asking permission to name the new toy a "Teddy Bear". So began a 100+ year history of the teddy bear and the joy it has brought to so many. So on this special day, give thanks for the bears in your hug and maybe even use this day as an excuse to adopt a new bear.
