Computer Problem Update

I have been beyond frustrated over the past 2 weeks, as I’m
sure my customers have. Thank you all for your patience. What I thought was
going to be a quick (one, two days at the most) task of updating my computer
from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (needed so I could use Turbo Tax to figure my
2025 tax liability and file for an extension by April 15th) turned
into a 2 week nightmare. I think my late husband Murphy must have been trying
to tell me something because Murphy’s Law occurred at every turn. Bottom line update: one email issue still
outstanding but barring any other, currently unforeseen problems, I should still
be able to start shipping again on Monday. If you are interested in knowing
more about the problems I encountered, here’s a summary.
* the computer service/repair store (that built my computer 6 years ago)
determined that an upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 was not possible, resulting
in me having to buy a new computer.
* transfer of all my files and photos (by the computer service/repair store) from
the old to the new computer took longer than they anticipated due to the sheer volume
of data (including over 15,000 photos just of the Charlie Bears I’ve received
and photographed over the past 18 years).
* transfer of the old computer’s hard drive including all my programs (by the
computer service/repair store) to the new computer finally worked after
numerous tries but then failed upon a restart resulting in me having to install
all the programs myself, one by one on the new computer, but not before having
to go buy an external disc drive because I discovered that new computers don’t
come with them.
* everything on the new computer finally worked (after resolving various problems)
only for me to see a black screen with the message “your device has encountered
a problem that can’t be repaired” the next morning after an overnight automatic
Windows update, resulting in me having to take the computer back to the
service/repair store for them to fix the problem.
* my printer showed as being connected to the new computer but wouldn’t print,
resulting in me having to go buy a new printer, only to encounter the same
problem with the new one (which I was finally able to resolve).
* I was able to add my Comcast.net email addresses to Outlook but not my
@bearsagainstms.com addresses. This is still an open issue so I just bought the
latest version of Outlook so that hopefully Microsoft support can help fix that
problem since neither the company that hosts the email or my ISP have been able
to.
All of the above involved 6 trips to the computer service/repair shop; 3 remote
access sessions with an Asurion tech (I highly recommend their Home Plus
program that includes not just damage coverage for all your home electronics but
also 24/7 remote access tech support); plus having to buy the new computer,
then the external disc drive, then the new printer.
Please keep your paws crossed that the final problem (adding
those @bearsagainstms.com email address to Outlook) can be resolved but either
way, barring any other, currently unforeseen new problems, I should be able to
start shipping again on Monday. Again, thank you all for your patience.
Message to Murphy: If there are golf courses in heaven, please
go play some golf. I’m tired of dealing with Murphy’s Law every other day.
